Defence Minister Prioritized Afghan Sikhs Over Canadians During Kabul Evacuation
The Story: A new report from The Globe and Mail claims that, during the August 2021 military withdrawal from Afghanistan, then-Defence Minister Harjit Saijan ordered the military evacuation of Afghan Sikhs from “in an operation that three military sources say took resources away from getting Canadian citizens and Afghans linked to Canada on final evacuation flights out of Kabul.” Minister Sajjan did so after the Government reached an agreement with a Charitable Foundation to sponsor the Afghan Sikhs’ immigration to Canada. According to The Globe and Mail, directors of that Fondation, the Manmeet Singh Bhullar Charitable Foundation, made over $3,000 in donations to Minister Sajjan’s re-election campaign, which coincided with the August 2021 withdrawal.
The Significance: Although the link between the Bhullar Foundation’s financial support and the Minister’s evacuation decision has not been fully proven, the group’s influence over military decision-making during a critical evacuation is undeniable. Most alarmingly is the accusation, via military sources, that Minister Sajjan prioritized Afghan Sikhs over Canadian citizens and critical allies who required evacuation from Kabul. This was a fundamental failure of Minister Sajjan’s responsibility to protect Canadian citizens as the Minister responsible for Canada’s defence. A leader in his role must be above even the appearance of bribery. The evidence indicates that Canada’s Defence Minister is implicated in, at the very least, heeding the concerns of an interest group he had a relationship with over the lives and needs of men and women God placed under his leadership. Canada, with all its moral failures, deserves this kind of leadership. We should pray, however, that God would mercifully give us new leaders anyway.

Police Refuse to Enforce Nudity Laws at Toronto Pride Parade
The Story: In a statement provided to True North, the Toronto Police stated that they would not file any charges against Pride participants who appeared fully nude at the Toronto Pride Parade. According to the Police, “it’s not in the best interest of officers or the community to have police wading into crowds to arrest people for public nudity, a charge which requires the consent of the Attorney General.” Video posted to social media and compiled by TrueNorth shows several adult men with exposed genitalia parading through the crowd.
The Significance: The purpose of Canada’s nudity laws are to protect the public, including children, from indecent sexual exposure and to preserve the basic respectability of Canadian society. Public nudity, at a Pride Parade and elsewhere, threaten these well-established purposes. The Toronto Police, then, have a responsibility to enforce nudity laws at a Pride Parade in the same way that they would enforce them outside of a Pride Parade. The fact that the nudity occurred at a public celebration for sexual promiscuity should not deter law enforcement from enforcing the law.
Many LGBTQ activists have claimed that their request is simply to be allowed to conduct their private affairs in peace. The consequences of sex, however, are never truly private. In the proper context of marriage between a man and a woman, sex has the public effect of procreating new citizens and ensuring the public benefit of stable marriages. Outside of its proper context, sex has the public effect of becoming a game of conquest, attention-grabbing, and pleasure-seeking that ravages the lives of participants and thrusts explicit sexual activities into a public context that should have never expanded beyond the marriage bed.
Nudity laws are perhaps a holdover from a bygone era of sexual self-control and decency. This does not change the fact, however, that they are good laws which reflect the truth about sex and which should be enforced with full and just vigor.

Two Saskatchewan Men Posthumously Awarded for Heroism
The Story: One of North America’s highest civilian honours has been posthumously awarded to two men from central Saskatchewan.
Chris Novecosky and his nephew, Joe Novecosky, both gave their lives in an attempted rescue of Chris’s two nieces who fell through thin ice at Humboldt Lake. One of the two girls would later be pronounced dead at the scene, but the pair of men successfully saved the life of the younger sister.
This week, Chris and Joe Novecosky were honoured for their selfless and heroic actions by being named as two of 18 recipients of this year’s Carnegie Medal—an award for Canadian or American civilians who “enter extreme danger” in an attempt to save the life of another.
The Significance: Our society repeatedly tries to convince us that being a man or a woman is something that can be chosen. But their shallow attempts to cosplay genders are nothing more than cross-dressing and the tragidy of bodily mutilation.
Chris and Joe Novecosky demonstrated in their death how true men live. By emulating the words of Christ that “greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends,” they showed that what truly makes a man is selflessness. Their bravery and sacrifice dwarf the petty selfishness of our narcissistic society.
The honour bestowed upon Chris Novecosky and Joe Novecosky is well-deserved. We can only hope that their families will be comforted in some small way by the fact that their heroic actions didn’t just save a life, but will hopefully challenge others to truly live.

CUPE Tells Protestors to Break the Law
The Story: CUPE Ontario promoted “civil disobedience” in support of a pro-Hamas protest at the University of Toronto. The University was granted an injunction, allowing them to clear out the protestors’ encampments, which had plagued the campus since May. The court ordered the protestors to leave and barred them from blocking access to the university grounds.
CUPE Ontario is currently facing a human rights complaint over their promotion of antisemitism, including a comment by CUPE Ontario head Fred Hahn seemingly celebrating Hamas’ October 7th massacre of Israeli civilians.
The pro-Hamas protestors left the campus before the deadline after Toronto police announced that they would enforce the injunction if needed.
The Significance: For the Christian, civil disobedience is a serious matter as we are commanded to “be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution” (1 Peter 2:13). This is not a blind obedience, however, as we can never obey a command to sin. For 2000 years, Christian thinkers have sought to find the exact line at which “laws do not bind in conscience” so that we might always be obedient to God’s commands, even if we must disobey the “human institution”.
For Fred Hanh and CUPE, neither the command to obey nor their own hypocrisy are serious considerations. Instead, their ends justify their means and their means justify their ends: their civil disobedience is in defense of “free speech”, and their defense of “free speech” justifies their support of antisemitism. And while they may claim to hold the moral high ground, the truth is that they have sold out their principles and their members for a group of cowards who took inspiration from Gestapo thugs but ran away as soon as the police got involved. CUPE, the protestors, and especially Fred Hanh, should be taken about as seriously as a toddler throwing a tantrum.
Quick Hit
Canadian Government doubles down on Progressive Ideology in Armed Forces: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is doubling down on the Wokification of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) with his newly appointed Chief of the Defence Staff. Lt.-Gen Jennie Carignan had previously served as “Chief for Professional Conduct and Culture” in the CAF. Under Carignan’s leadership, her office focused on defeating “colonialism”, “patriarchy”, and “heteronormativity”. With an ongoing recruitment crisis and a shrinking budget, it should bring no comfort that the new Chief of the Defence Staff is more focused on defeating “heteronormativity” than making sure that our armed forces are, well, armed.
