Domestic Violence Survivors Leave Committee after Liberals Ignore Them to Promote Abortion
The Story: Several survivors of domestic violence walked out of a parliamentary committee hearing after Liberal and NDP MPs changed the agenda to discuss abortion instead. Cait Alexander had travelled all the way from California to share her testimony of surviving abuse and, along with respected advocate Megan Walker, ended up turning her back to the MPs as the meeting devolved into shouting over the Liberals attempt to turn the topic from protecting women to abortion rights.
The survivors, who had been sharing their harrowing stories of domestic violence, tried to shout over the Liberal interjections in order to share their stories but the Liberal and NDP MPs were not deterred and continued with a motion to change the meeting’s agenda to abortion. The survivors and advocates walked out of the meeting visibly shaken and have demanded an apology.
The Significance: This disgusting display by the Liberal MPs, led by Ottawa MP Anita Vandenbeld, carries many different significances. The members of committee who overrode the agenda, both Liberal and NDP, have zero credibility left in regards to caring for women when they were willing to distress survivors of domestic violence. Even if their complaints about the meeting had been correct, their selfish display and disregard for the women who had been invited guests speaks to their true evaluation of female survivors of violence. The fact that their behaviour has not been condemned by their leaders speaks even louder.
While protesting that the Conservatives had invited the witnesses to simply make them look bad, it is telling that the Liberals’ only move to protect their reputation was to pivot immediately to abortion. In their minds, abortion is a sacrament to the cult of death that has gripped our nation. The idea that their political careers could be saved on the sacrifice of dead babies is as galling as any pagan nation we read about in the Old Testament.
Proverbs 31:8 states: “Open your mouth for the mute, for all who are destitute.” In stark contrast, the governing MPs silenced the broken and spoke out against the lives of those who cannot speak for themselves.

Jasper Wildfire Destroys 30% of Town
The Story: A major wildfire in Jasper National Park is estimated to have destroyed approximately 30% of the Town of Jasper. An estimated 20,000 people were required to evacuate the townsite after the fire grew out of control, most of whom are still displaced and are awaiting the end of the fire so that they can return to their homes or, in many cases, to the empty lots where their homes once stood.
The Significance: Many have justifiably cast blame on the Federal Government (which is responsible for managing all National Parks) for failing to issue a sufficient number of controlled burns inside the Park, a practice which saw a dramatic reduction after the Liberals won Government in 2015. As a result, the unburned timber lying on the forest floor became fodder for the blaze. The Liberals, in turn, have blamed climate change as a major factor for the fire—an odd statement given that the Liberal Government has been enacting climate change policies for almost a decade.
In all, however, the rush to blame the wildfire on human action or inaction betrays a fundamental flaw in our thinking: our refusal to believe that some things are simply outside of our control. The reality is that fires and natural disasters ultimately come from the hand of God and demonstrate our own impotence in comparison to his Sovereign Power. When we immediately assume human failure as the cause for natural disasters, we reveal a deep desire to believe that we have authority to prevent these events when, in reality, we often stand helpless in front of them.
We live in a world that does not operate according to our designs. Instead, we are human beings whose role is dependence on God rather than independence from God. The sooner we recognize this fact, the sooner we will be able to make sense of the unexplainable and trust fully in God’s goodness as He orders human events for His glory and the good of His people.

Apparent Arson Attacks, Foiled Terror Plot in Toronto
The Story: Early Monday morning, apparent arsonists torched a bus for Jewish schools in Toronto. The following evening, a shed built into the side of the Leo Baeck Day School in Toronto was set on fire, destroying the shed and damaging the school.
Toronto police denied that the school fire was motivated by antisemitism, blaming it instead on an alleged homeless squatter. However, security footage unearthed by Rebel News shows a man—not recognized by neighbours—carrying items toward the school around 3:00 AM, directly before the fire. Toronto police have since released an image of the suspect.
Meanwhile, an RCMP raid captured father-and-son duo Ahmed and Mostafa Eldidi, who were in the “late stages” of planning an attack on a “particular” community, which the RCMP have yet to identify. Ahmed was previously charged in connection with an ISIS-related attack in Iraq, raising serious questions as to how he and his son became Canadian citizens.
The Significance: The response by the Toronto police and the selective reporting of the media paint a concerning picture of our institutions. It is certainly possible that both apparent arson incidents are unrelated to the growing antisemitic violence in Canada, but that cannot possibly be known until an investigation actually takes place. And while the RCMP managed to stop the Eldidis’ plot, the fact is that this is not a one-off: if a man charged in connection with ISIS is allowed to become a citizen, how many other terrorists have gotten through “screening”?
The rush to deny and avoid negative coverage does not inspire confidence in the courage, competence, or truthfulness of those running our institutions.
Proverbs tells us that “If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked” (Prov 29:12). It seems that we are learning that lesson firsthand.

Conservative Leader Shares Support for Anti-Gender Ideology Opinion Piece
The Story: In a social media post issued to X, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre shared a National Post article criticizing Canada’s liberal gender transition regime and highlighting the simple quote: “It’s time Canadian medical leaders stood up to gender medicine.” Other quotes from the article include “suffice it to say that Canada is one of the most permissive jurisdictions in the world, when it comes to gender transition policy” and the by-line, “we studied a myriad of gender transition policies in Canada and found that we are one of the most permissive, reckless jurisdictions.”
The Significance: Although Poilievre’s action in this case is nothing more than a social media post, his willingness to share an article so openly critical of Canada’s transgender medical regime shows just how much ground Canada’s anti-gender ideology movement has gained. Famous for his ability to understand the political winds, Pierre Poilievre clearly sees that Canadian public opinion is on his side and now views gender ideology as a winning issue for Conservatives. Furthermore, the article he shares does not merely include vague criticisms about gender ideology but mentions specific Canadian policies and their negative effects. As such, we should be hopeful that Poilievere’s action signals positive policy implications to come under a Conservative Government and we should pray that he holds the line.

Paris Goes Dark After Blasphemous Olympic Ceremonies: A power outage struck Paris following the widely-condemned blasphemous opening ceremonies of the Olympic games. In the ceremony, LGBT performers mocked Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous Christian painting The Last Supper. The following evening, central Paris was plunged into darkness as the power failed. The sole building which remained bathed in light was the Basilica of Sacre-Coeur de Montmartre, which is dedicated to Our Lord and built on the site of the martyrdom of Denis of Paris, a Third Century missionary to the city.
While the world may mock God, and while they may even kill His disciples as they killed Denis of Paris, still Our Lord reigns supreme. “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap” (Gal 6:7).
With this reminder that Jesus Christ is King, let us renew our prayers for the conversion of the whole world.
